news bits

ATHENS, Ala. - Cornelia Cottrell Smith received a phone call at work from a "nosy neighbor" who informed her that her husband was at their apartment with another woman. That's when Smith left work to go home and investigate. "She came in and caught her husband with another woman and she grabbed a can of Raid and went at it," said another officer, Capt. Marty Bruce. "She hit the husband in the back of the head with it and then turned on the woman and also hit her in the head." Smith was charged with domestic violence and released from the city jail after posting a $1,000 bond.

KINGSTON, Ont. - A 19-year-old man who stole an $80 hand-held vagina from an adult store and went around the corner to give it a test drive. Kingston police Const. Neil Finn said they found the teen after he used the toy and was arrested about 10 minutes after it had been taken from the store. The teen apparently dumped the toy after it was used, and it was not recovered by police. Video store employee Heather Baker said this was the second recent theft at the business, but that thefts of this nature are few and far between.

BALTIMORE - Joshua Kelly and Lara Brook got lost after watching the Orioles play and stopped to ask an officer for directions. The kindly policeman arrested the lost couple for trespassing on a public street and threw them in jail. The couple told WBA-TV, Baltimore, the first officer they sought directions from refused to help, saying, "You found your own way in here, you can find your own way out." They flagged down another cruiser but the first officer jumped between them and said her partner was not going to "step in front of me and tell you directions if I'm not," Kelly said. They were ordered out of their car, cuffed and hauled downtown on a charge of trespassing on a public street. Really makes you want to visit Baltimore, doesn't it?
