helping hand

i might be gone this whole summer. in fact, i'm counting on it. i want to go to taiwan and teach english. altho as a job this time. not like last year in china. anyway. i've already filled and sent out a couple applications and also emailed over 30 job employers trying to set this up. but all this means that i probably won't be here for dragon boat this summer. which sucks because i think this'll be the first long beach annual tourney i've missed. and actually. it sucks even more because phil (our team captain) is thinking about stepping down because his work might make him travel a lot. the last time he missed a tourney i took over as captain. and i'd love for that to happen again this year. unfortunately... and like, if phil does step down. and if i'm not here this year. then if this ever happens in the future then i won't be captain. it'll be whoever it was this year . :( i guess is okay. i'll still be an officer. and of course i'll have the women's team: pms. :) i wanted to be 'no seamen' but decided that might be too witty. anyway, out of pms (putting men to shame), woot (women on one team), war (women are rowers), pow (power on water), and wtf (we the females), our team voted for pms. :) and lol, yeah, you can see that i help come up wit a couple of those team names.

anyway, so our team has always had a bit of a problem wit fundraising. we usually only have one car wash. and that's it. it brings in quite a bit, but still, you can never have too many funds, right? so this year i was thinking a book sale. i kno, it won't bring in much. but it's easy to set up, it doesn't take many people to run, and watever we don't sell we donate. so even if we make near nothing at least 1) people cleaned off their bookshelves and 2) some library gets pretty lucky.

the point is, tho, that some people think it's a little weird i'm setting up this fundraiser even tho i might not be here this summer. i think it's perfectly normal. i mean.. i've always been part of this team. i've always beenan officer in it. and it's not as if i'm quitting. i just might not be here to participate. but i'd like to. if at all possible, i'd love it if i could fly back the weekend of and row my ass off. course. that's not reasonable. anyway. i just wanted to explain myself a lil.

one more thing. if you have any books or magazines you'd like to donate please contact me! or if you just like to read and would like to support us by showing up and buying something then i'd be forever indebted to you. :)

fame

+--------------- Bizarre Celebrity Trivia  ----------------+
Clark Gable had no teeth; he wore dentures - which bothered the actresses he worked with. "His false teeth were just too much," complained Grace Kelly. And Vivien Leigh swore she would quit doing love scenes with him in Gone With the Wind "unless he washed out his mouth."

Hugh Hefner was still a virgin on his 22nd birthday.

Charles Bronson got his first part in a movie, "You're In the Navy Now," because "he could belch on cue."

Jerry Lewis never wears the same pair of socks twice.

George Reeves, the star of TV's "Superman," was buried wearing the grey double-breasted suit he wore when he played Clark Kent.

Bela Lugosi, who played the vampire Dracula in many films, was buried in his Dracula cape.

introspective

reepal was telling me last night that i'm so cute. i'm pretty sure he meant my mannerisms and not my appearance. but either way. cute. it's definitely not something i strive for. in fact, it isn't even something i want to be. i was asking ting about this and she agrees. in fact, were we to choose the adjectives we'd want people to use when describing us physically, ting wants 'beautiful' and 'glowing'. i want 'attractive' and maaaybe 'good looking'. but i like attractive best. because it doesn't actually say much. and yet it's actually quite specific. btw, i find beautiful too obvious. it's not like cute tho. i don't want to be cute. i don't like it when people think i'm cute. it's too trite. beautiful. well. i don't particularly want to be beautiful but i wouldn't mind if people found me to be that way. altho, really, i'm sure i'm much closer to cute than beautiful. but anyway.

this got me thinking about how if we were to choose five adjectives to describe ourselves they most likely wouldn't be the five we want to be. nor would it be the five we want others to think we are. but i find it most interesting that the five we want to be, aren't the five we want others to use to describe us. i haven't given this way too much thought yet (altho i am using a dictionary to make sure i get things right). but thus far, i want to be:

knowledgeable
broadminded
altruistic
gracious
perceptive

i want people to find me:
intelligent
easy to talk to
empathetic
amicable

interesting

bah. this is so hard! i mean, i’ve narrowed it down to these, but i also want to be… contemplative, creative, adaptable, spontaneous, appreciative, forgiving, etc. and i want others to find me dependable, trustworthy, funny, thoughtful, insightful, easy going… but i guess the main differences are that i want to be generous and kind, altho i don’t care if others think that i am. i also want to be polite and gracious, but it won’t bother me if no one knows. i think… in general, the things i want to be make me a bigger person. they affect a larger group of people. but i want others to think of me treating them individually.

but anyway, if you haven’t yet, please go help me to fill out my johari window. thanks. :)

makeovers

some idiots have decided to ruin a great looking car (the mercedes sl) by covering it wit diamonds. ...i kid you not [pic 1]. and in other weird makeover news. mcdonalds has also decided to go extreme and turn some of their fast food resturants into lounge like places. ...why? [pic 2 & 3]

btw, i'm going to try to post more pictures on here (like on my snapshots). i think it looks more interesting? it'll be a little difficult considering the number of links i post and how unrelated they are. but anyway. lemme kno if you like it better?

slumming

maybe it was isaac mizrahi who started it (well, big wise). but now we got luella and tara jambon at target and lagerfield and mccartney at h&m. but remember tara subkoff for easy spirit? i remember seeing her gladiator sandels which i absolutely loathed. altho her wedges [pic 1 & 2] aren't bad (altho they do remind me of chloe's spring 06 platform wedges [pic 3]). anyway. i think it was the same season that maria cornejo from zero also paired up wit keds to create some really awsome shoes. anyway, i had forgotten about these shoes until the other day when angel and i were at fred segal sm and i saw both the chloe wedges and the zero keds laceups [pic 4] in black. finally went online and decided to look them up and here they are! they don't look awesome on the keds site. but they looked really good in the show, and also in person. if only they weren't nearly $140! but seriously. i want these.
