ideal bookshelf

omg, jane mount has combined a couple of my most favorite things: art and books. her ideal bookshelf is freaking to die for. seriously. if i had an extra ~$300 lying around i'd totally order a customized painting. tho i'm not sure what books i'd want. haha, i'd be tempted to choose books that i only like (but not love) because they have beautiful bindings (like that gorgeous kenzo book above!!).

i'd definitely have: margaret atwood's the handmaid's tale, f scott fitzgerald's great gatsby, sylvia plath's the bell jar, ray bradbury's fahrenheit 451, w somerset maugham's of human bondage, and shirley jackson's the lottery.

i'd want to include: something by bill bryson, andre dubus iii's house of sand and fog, stanislaw lem's solaris, milan kundera's the unbearable lightness of being, arthur miller's death of a salesman, scott schuman's the sartorialist, jhumpa lahiri's interpreter of maladies, charlotte perkins gilman's the yellow wallpaper, and lois lawry's the giver.

and possibly add: the 2005 lonely planet china, irene nemirovsky's suite francaise, janwillem van de wetering's the empty mirror, anna gavalda's i wish someone were waiting for me somewhere, sena jeter naslund's ahab's wife...

okay, no more, i thought i'd list a few, turns out there are way too many, lol.

what books would you choose?

felting

a couple years ago i got interested in needle felting, which, if you're not afraid of needles and like soft little figurines, i suggest you take up since it's incredibly easy. i only made one thing, a simple sheep, but some people, like f for felt, can make crazy amazing things.
etsy store: f for felt
prices vary

she did most of the main cast from alice and wonderland (the rabbit in the above pictures is the one who leads alice down the hole). and most of her stuff is 100% felted, even the eyes! all her stuff is SO amazing. my favorites, though, are her bear skin "rugs." she even has a hot pink one! :)
$49 each

cake stands

with food, taste isn't everything. you most likely see it before you eat it so good presentation helps! (i keep thinking about cake stands because we went to abbot kinney a few weekends ago and saw a shop that was filled with beautiful things, including cake stands. wish i had taken pictures!)

here are some beautiful cake stands from burlap + blue. they sell other things too, like coasters and wreaths, but i love cake so... :)

store: burlap + blue
prices: $15 - $40 (cake stands)

rose and radish

rose and radish has a lot of really unique home things. i mean, lookit this outdoor shower. it's so simplistic and unassuming. it doesn't look like anything 'useful', maybe a coat hanger or something... but it's a shower! and lookit this beautiful steel bird ornament thing. so pretty!

so pretty!

the first time i saw this garland light in some magazine i immediately wanted it. of course, it's $60, which really isn't expensive. but for one who doesn't have a job and who doesn't need a light... well anyway. then a couple days ago i saw these fairy tale cards and again, i fell in love! i am currently contemplating whether or not to buy them...
