i owe $70 to space from last year's banquet. but i don't go to practice so i haven't "had the chance" to give anyone a check. so i asked the captains if we had a paypal account yet. (they had talked about getting one.) the reply i got was:
"I don't believe so, and Paypal is so last Wednesday ....
We were in process to implement Squareup so we can take CC purchases at the beach"
the FUCK is up with the snark? i don't go to practice to fucking paddle, the hell would i go to pay money? and, btw, when i do go to practice, i NEVER bring my cc (or even my wallet!). not only have i never needed it at the beach, but there has been a recent rash of theft. so fuck you mr so last wednesday. you'll be waiting on my $70 for a while yet!
one more thing, squareup charges 2.75% on each transaction, while paypal is generally free.

fun to-do
my fun to-do this year:
-go to rose bowl flea market
- go to the getty villa
- go to la city central library and the last bookstore
- ride the "hot air balloon"
- drive-in movie
- make a xmas wreath
- when in china this summer, visit bookworm in beijing.
and maybe not this year but go SOON!!: go to the underground gardens in fresno (i'm almost positive it won't be as good as i'm expecting it to be.)
and also soon, go to palm springs to kayak the salton sea and go do a windmill tour (like this one or this one)
and if i'm ever near ojai, visit bart's books, the largest independently owned and operated outdoor bookstore in the u.s.

time off
vicki larson - should you lose your job over an affair
this is kind of a old article, dating back from the petraeus thing. but it brings up some good questions. namely: "does having an affair lead you to make bad decisions across the board?... And if it doesn't impact your ability to lead, manage or govern, why would you have to resign or be ousted?"
i say no. no one's perfect and everyone's a hypocrite. NO ONE and EVERYONE. no exceptions. but cheating on your spouse has nothing to do with your job. unless your job somehow explicitly has to do with you remaining monogamous. tho certainly your job may or may not make your philandering look worse. if you're a pimp, cheating on your wife would seem to be expected. head of the cia? not so much.
i haven't followed the petraeus story for a while, but he doesn't seem to have done anything actually wrong regarding his job. he apparently didn't tell her any confidential info and didn't give her access to stuff he shouldn't have. so why should he lose his job? it would sort of be like if i lost my job for speeding, though speeding is actually against the law in all states (adultery is only illegal in 20something states). driving too fast says a lot about a person too. and it could actually endanger lives.
unless they can actually prove that patraeus broke a law other than adultery, i don't think it's fair for him to lose his job. and neither should you! (lose your job, that is. you're entitled to think what you want)

hope phones tally
last year aj
and i ran a cell phone collection drive for hope phones to put
health care workers in some of the poorest areas of the world. we've only just wrapped it up, lol. i was hoping that doing a drive with someone would help me to set firmer deadlines, but instead this turned into another way too drawn out drive. anyway!
we were hoping for a least a few dozen phones, but ended up collecting exactly 100 phones! most were from the dragon boat community, but i also got a lot from friends and family. big shout out to ting who publicized the drive at her work too, and collected over 10 phones (mostly smartphones too!).
for more information about the charity, visit http://hopephones.org/
thanks so much!
